1.9.12 (Saturday)
This morning I had a shower then we drove to Shell Beach where we saw the backpackers (from Neds camp Cape range national Park), then we went to nanga bay and had lunch. We also went to the stromatolites where we saw the remains of a cart, then we kept driving until we got to Billabong roadhouse. We kept driving 50km more and got to a free camp.
Erin at Shell Beach. This sandy is look is all tiny shells. Therefore to walk on this is quite firm except where you find a soft spot like Erin has. There is a factory here that collects the shell and crushes it for shellgrit for chooks and it gets added to cement and numerous other uses. It's amazing and the business is sustainable. The beach continually gets more shells on it. There are only 2 beaches in the world that have the shells like this on them.

These rock looking things under the deck are stromotalites. They have been around since the world began. They are living bacteria or something lik that and it slowly grows and releases oxygen which meant plants and animals and humans could survive on the planet. There are only 2 sites in the world known to scientists where you can see the Stromatalites like this.
Walking down the beach, again it joins with Shell beach and pebbly. In the old days to build steps and houses they'd saw out chunks of the beach to make blocks. The shells under the surface are very firmly stuck together which makes great bricks
