31.10.12 (Wednesday)
Today we went to Umpherston sinkhole, Blue lake and Valley lake at Mt Gambier.  We also went to Port Macdonnell and Cape Northumberland, then we crossed the border into VICTORIA and drove through Nelson, Kentbruck and Portland.  We stopped at Sawpit campground (20km East of Portland) for the night.  We also hiked up Mt Schank Volcano's rim.
Umpherston Sinkhole at Mt Gambier.  This was amazing.  Years ago the water had slowly penetrated through the rock and eventually this huge section collapsed.  There were old photos showing people paddling in boats at the bottom but then there was another cave in and now the bottom is above the water table.  You can walk right down into it and round the edges

The Blue Lake at Mt Gambier

You can see how blue it is in this picture.  It's only blue in November so we lucked out being here on the 31st October and seeing it blue.  It was originally formed from volcanic action and now its the water supply for the town.

This was one of the best playgrounds.  Mum reccons we've been on every piece of playground equipment that's ever been made.

We had to climb lots of steps in sprinkling rain to get to the top of this crater. Mt Schank Volcano . We're standing on the rim and then you can see over the edge where there is now grass growing in the bottom.

Lots of rock formations have been named and this one is called Camel rock. This is at Port Macdonnell. They get fairy penguins in here but we'd have to be here at night to see and hear them

Erin and I were excited to cross the border.  We were expecting a building for quarantine food checking but there was nothing but this sign.  Mum got rid of all our fruit and vegies before we got here but it wouldn't have mattered.  Going into and out of WA they check your caravan for food that shouldn't be brought between the states

There were plenty of these wallabies (not sure of the type of kangaroo this is) at our sawpit campground which is an old forestry area, not national park.  We had a good view down to portland from here
